A building’s ventilation systems require regular maintenance: cleaning air supply and exhaust ducts, equipment and their motors. The regularity of those works is set out in the legislation of the Republic of Estonia:

The standard and the cleaning interval: Estonian standard EVS 812-2:2014 “Fire safety of buildings”

1.1 The entire ventilation system together with its equipment must be possible to clean without damaging any structures. The cleaning mode depends on the site and must be co-ordinated with supervisory bodies if necessary. The cleaning frequency must be at least once a year. Two consecutive cleaning occasions must not be more than 365 24-hour-periods apart.

Naturally, it is very important to ensure the compliance with hygiene standards and legislation in a building but this does not mean the need to clean the ventilation system every year.

Our competitors give the following information: cleaning is necessary after every 5, 4, or 3 years. We find these claims to be unfounded because they do not take into account the specifics of use of the building and the rooms as well as the production processes.

We have an individual approach to every client. We base our actions on the legislation and perform regular inspections of the utility systems, and we recommend our customers to clean the ventilation systems if necessary.

The main problem of this field in Estonian market is the excessive reduction of service prices. Unfortunately, not all customers understand that a low price does not always guarantee high-quality performance of the works. We have seen this frequently during our 15 years of practice.

NB! Wiping the grilles does not equal cleaning the ventilation system.

We recommend our customers to have an expert assessment of the ventilation system’s level of soiling be prepared before the start of the works. This helps determine the rate of proactive maintenance/cleaning needed for the ventilation system.
